Using an air humidifier in a child’s room

The useful air humidifiers by Philips Avent, Chicco or Béaba are available in many different sizes. Depending on the size of the room, different models are considered. A water tank with two liters capacity is enough to moisturize a room with 25m². Small models are available with a tank for one liter. Bigger types have a capacity of three liters and more. They are suitable for the use in rooms with more than 35m². The air humidifier is appropriate for different areas in a house. The relative air moisture of 40% is perfect for sleeping and living rooms. That is often not possible during the heating period. But you can simply open the windows and let the humidity get out for a clean warm temperature and no air moisture.

  • interference of lung capacity
  • nasal mucosa dry out
  • can cause headache
  • causes insomnia in some cases

An air humidifier is an easy and effective way to counteract these symptoms. It’s especially important in a child’s room. Since babies and toddlers do not have a fully developed immune system, low air moisture can have negative consequences for the health of your child. Children who are wracked with allergies, asthma or skin diseases react extremely sensitive to their surroundings. An air humidifier will do good here.

How does an air humidifier work?

You can choose between three basic forms - an evaporator, a nebulizer and a steam humidifier. All options have advantages and disadvantages. A device which works with steam boils the water and gives off the steam to their surroundings. The water vapor is hygienic. The existing gems will die off. The steam output is high as well as the power consumption. The steam output cannot be adjusted precisely. There is a risk of too much moisture in a room. An evaporator spreads the water without heating it. It will be spread all over the surface and blew into the whole room then. This technique is power-saving. Compared to the steam humidifier it needs more water and can be controlled more precise. There is no risk of too much air moisture. However, the nebulizer is applied the most. There, the water is pushed into a sieve with rotating plates. Fog is generated which will be spread in the room. The modern types place emphasis on ultrasound. On this method, the water is misting through the room and power is used barely. It can reduce the air temperature actively. The devices are effective when they are small and do not generate heat.

What should be considered buying an air humidifier?

If you are looking for an air humidifier for your child’s room, you need to pay attention to the noise generation which is indicated in decibel. The noise generation depends on the constitution of the room. Less furniture and missing curtains or carpets increase every noise. If you often use the device, the power consumption is interesting. Letting the device run for several hours a day make a noticeable difference on the electricity bill. Take measurements of the room because when the humidifier is too small it is not enough to do good.

Tips and tricks for the right use

Whether in your baby’s room or the living room, good air moisture increases the well-being. Choose a place for your device so it is not cramped between furniture or walls, so that the fog will spread equally around the room. The selection for designs and materials is wide. Models which have a plain style and are ageless, can be used in every kind of room. Models made of stainless steel are robust and easy to clean. The devices are equipped with a control lamp which gives you notice as soon as the water tank is empty. Place the device somewhere you can always see the lamp blink.
