Most parents are keen to promote the development of their children. A scooter is a good and simple vehicle that provides the perfect way to promote your little one. Riding a scooter helps your child develop a variety of abilities. On a scooter, children learn to express their joy in moving in a playful way. This vehicle fosters skills such as the coordination of various motion sequences, the development of a stable balance as well as getting a feel for speed.
Children are different and thus general statements may differ from the individual case. Most manufacturers approve their kids scooters for use from the age of three years and up. As a parent, you will be able to assess the level of your little one’s development accordingly.
Your child should be able to stand on the deck independently, to push off with the foot and steer the scooter at the same time. Another important factor is your child’s body size, since it provides your child with sufficient control over the handlebar. In any case, it is always best to have your child practice riding the scooter on a flat and quiet terrain.
Your child's age is the main criterion for choosing the right scooter. Another important criterion are the surroundings in which the scooter is to be used. Is your little one supposed to use his scooter in the park, at the playground or already on pavements, and by extension in traffic?
Kids scooters with four wheels are suitable for the smallest children. Such scooters can already be used by children at the age of 1,5 to 2 years. Due to their four wheels these scooters stand on their own and therefore offer a high level of stability. A similar concept is provided by kids scooters that feature three wheels. Again, your child will be supported with additional stability. Three-wheeled scooters are available in two versions: with two wheels on the front or else two wheels on the back. The general age recommendation for these scooters is three years.
The classic scooters with two wheels are suitable for being used for children at the age of four years and up. These are suitable for children who are already able to keep their own balance. If you opt for a classic scooter, you can also follow the age recommendations given by the manufacturer. You should also pay attention to the weight allowance given by the manufacturer and, in terms of age suitability, keep in mind that your child might want to use his scooter for a longer time.
For older children and teenagers, there are a number of different scooters and kickboards available. Scooters are available in different versions from kick scooters, to eccentric-hub scooter, to modern electric kick scooters.
As already mentioned above, the ground and terrain on which the scooter is supposed to be used are crucial for choosing the right product. A scooter with plastic wheels, for instance, is perfect for being used on hard surfaces. If the scooter is to be used off-roads more frequently, you might want to choose one with pneumatic tires. These scooters stand out as the right choice no matter what surface you are provided with – they master any terrain easily. However, scooter with pneumatic tires demand a higher level of maintenance.
The material: wood, plastic, metal
Wooden scooters are the classic models. If you opt for such a scooter, you need to pay attention to the quality of the wood it is made of as well as to an appropriate sealing. A major advantage of aluminum scooters is their low weight. These scooters are easy to carry which is perfect for when your child is tired or has no desire to ride on it. Some models can be folded and therefore are much easier to transport, for example in public transport. Scooters made of plastic also share the advantage of being particularly light in weight. However, you need to pay attention to their maximum weight capacity which is usually only 20 kg.
