Does the following scenario sound familiar to you: You and your little one are on the way to the doctor, to the grocery store or to visit grandma and grandpa and just before you arrive with your car, your little sweetheart has fallen asleep in the infant car seat. Often the way from the parking lot to the final destination is so long that you have to use the stroller and take your sleeping baby out of the infant car seat to put it into the carrycot. Most babies wake up and become restless and fractious.

For many parents, it is therefore important to decide for a stroller that can be combined with an infant car seat. Here, the travel system stands out as the perfect solution to make your everyday life with a baby much easier. For short distances, the infant car seat can simply be taken out of the car and attached to the stroller's frame, and vice versa, without disturbing your sleeping baby. In a travel system, all components are coordinated. It is easy to use and has an easy-to-remove seat unit and an adapter that allows you to remove it and replace it with the infant car seat in a quick and convenient way.

Travel systems are usually a bit bigger and bulkier, sometimes also heavier than most strollers. In addition to this, some manufacturers offer a variety of different accessories, such as an Isofix base for installing the infant car seat in the car. Others, in turn, refrain from such additional accessories, which makes handling easier in everyday life. For longer distances on foot, various systems also offer a comfortable carrycot. This carrycot allows your newborn to take a flat reclining position and can later be replaced with a regular seat unit.

Travel systems are available in different prices. Top brands offer high-quality systems with different equipment from 350 € up to over 1000 €. Many of the systems already have a carrycot included in the set and may therefore be slightly more expensive than those that have only a chassis, a seat unit and an infant car seat.

When buying a travel system, you can choose between 2 options:

1. You can purchase a complete set consisting of stroller or buggy frame, a seat unit, carrycot and an infant car seat. These full-fledged systems are usually offered by the same manufacturer and are thus perfectly matched, or

2. You can create your own travel system by purchasing a stroller or buggy, which is suitable for being used as a travel system, and an infant car seat separately. Here you can choose the products from different manufacturers, but you should make sure that all components are compatible with each other. Also, keep in mind that you may need to purchase adapters that allow you to attach the infant car seat to the chassis. This option is more expensive compared to the complete sets, but gives you a wider choice.

Keep the 2-hour rule in mind!

This rule is a safety recommendation from all manufacturers, according to which a child should not sit in an infant car seat for more than 2 hours. This applies to when your baby is traveling in the car and even when traveling in the travel system - that is, when your baby is in an infant car seat that is attached to a buggy or stroller frame.

Paediatricians, car seat safety experts and safe sleep experts recommend that you should restrict the time your baby is sitting in a car seat to a maximum of 2 hours. In addition to this, an infant car seat or child car seat should not be used as a regular sleeping place for your child. If you are traveling with your baby for long hours, an infant carrier or stroller set or travel system, respectively, with a carrycot is the best choice.
